Summary
The Catering Attendant position is responsible for performing a wide variety of duties typically found in a catering department. Additionally, Catering Attendants 21 years or older may fulfill the additional duties of Bartender, this is not a prerequisite to employment but preference may be given to candidates that can fulfill this duty.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide the highest quality of delivery and banquet service to the customer at all times.
Performs a wide variety of basic duties while filling in for others, responding to and handling special workload requirements, projects, or events.
Must be able to load required catering equipment and food into vehicles for transport, unload, set up and pick up for events both on UAA campus, as well as to some areas in the UAA Campus Area. We offer full service Catering 12 months a year.
This person must be able to complete the same high quality service and delivery at extreme cold temperatures.
This position may have to work some Holidays.
Must be available to work variable and split shifts Monday – Sunday starting at 5:00 AM until closing.
Must be able to read and interpret Event Forms and Pull Sheets and other written instructions or procedures.
Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.
May clean and maintain various areas and equipment.
Wears standard professional uniform and safety shoes at all times.
Will occasionally serve in a variety of settings including a typical bar setup or served to guests’ table
Must be able to gauge guests’ consumption to ensure a safe and pleasant event and can observe Federal, State, and local alcoholic beverage control regulations.
This position is not responsible for the supervision of staff.
Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Municipality of Alaska Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Certification contingent upon 30 days of hire.
Must be 21 years of age or older to serve and prepare alcohol drinks.
Must have Training for Alcohol Professionals (TAP) certification; or have been formally trained in alcohol management/serving
Some combination of food service or catering experience that demonstrates a suitability for this type of work.
Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.
Preferred Qualifications
A valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.
Bartender: Must be able to obtain a TAPS or have a current TAPS/TAM Card issued in the State of Alaska.
Able to have effective written and verbal communication skills to communicate

Weather: Indoors, environmentally controlled.
Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually mild
Description of environment: This is a cafeteria environment located on a University Campus setting.
Physical requirements: Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift. Infrequently required to sit, crouch or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 35lbs
